Respite Care

Foster families may need “respite care” for various reasons.

A family that does respite care must go through the same process as a foster family, however, they will care for kids that are already part of a long-term placement. Much like an aunt, uncle, or grandparent, they will work with the social workers and foster families to schedule overnight short term care when a foster family need relief.

Benefits of being a Relief/Respite Family

-Making an impact in foster care by helping foster families and children.

-Scheduled care

-Short term (Usually only one weekend or week)

-Connecting with a child in a mentor role rather than parent

Step 1.

Just like regular foster care, to be a respite family, you must first contact the Department of Social Services or the agency.
